Just Shoot Me....Now....like.... totally

Here is an ad headline I just saw on Yahoo's front page...

"Why Online College is so Cool"

Exactly what is the target audience for the ad? What brilliant ad agency came up with that tag line? Classic example of irresponsibility.  "Hi. I'm an employer and I am looking for a COOL employee, and i want to pay them because they went to a COOL online college and i want to be COOL too."

Where are the application papers for the colleges that are linked to that ad? Gimme those right away, baby.  Sign me up.  I wanna be cool.  Totally, completely, cooooolll.  yeeeaahh.

I think these young ladies know what I'm talking about...

Ugh. There is a part of me that understands why there are online colleges; so people can go back to school. I just cannot understand the recent surge of online ads aimed at teens. Let me get the word out; as a person who often interviews people for my employer I see a resume with education coming from an online school and I pass it along. Some can argue this is wrong, but the education you get in school has some to do with the classes and more to do with the interactions with professors, students and other faculty. It has more to do with learning time management skills in balancing 20 credits with Dorm events and social schedules. Honestly I couldn't care less about the degree itself, it is the fact that you got the degree despite the distractions of school.

I should write about that sometime....

Along those same lines, it seems that a drastically low number of college grads actually go into the field of their major, while online students almost always do. Nonetheless, its the college grads who seem to excel in the field, most probably attributable to their ability to handle "distractions" as you say, stress, and all the other psycho-social factors, as well as having the maturity level fostered by relationships forged amongst students with so many commonalities. Thanks for the comment!
